Cooperative and Respectful Government
What I said I would do as commissioner:
I will do all I can to make our county government a welcoming place for citizens, local governments, and our neighbors from outside Boulder County. I believe that the best decisions come out of a respectful atmosphere in which all viewpoints are heard and considered.
What I did as commissioner:
In my first term, I have joined with my fellow commissioners in a number of initiatives to make count government more accessible. It was soon after taking office that my fellow commissioners and I adopted the new policy of scheduling public hearings on topics with significant public interest in the evenings. This schedule adjustment is making it easier for individuals with daytime conflicts to participate in our deliberations.
We also made improved public service a core part of the mission for county departments and staff. Consistent with this mission, we have created a bilingual pay incentive for county staff in order to better serve Spanish-speaking residents. We also enhanced our website to make it easier for residents to access the information they need regarding county government programs and services.
What I have left to do as commissioner:
I will continue to do all I can to make our county government a welcoming place for all citizens, local governments, and our neighbors from outside Boulder County. |
