What Will Has Accomplished since 2004

  1. Firmed up the county’s finances to ensure funding for social services and sustainable initiatives.
  2. Developed and started implementing county-wide sustainable energy plans, including BuildSmart, which is one of the strongest residential green building codes in the country.
  3. Adopted single stream recycling for the County, which will begin in summer of 2008, and makes it easier for county residents to recycle materials, and to begin largescale composting. Also adopted a waste haulers ordinance requiring trash haulers in the unincorporated county to provide curbside recycling.
  4. Extended funding for Open Space programs and acquisitions, which has acquired over 5700 acres of open space between 2005-2008.Moved forward on critical trail connections around the county, including the Wild Turkey trail at Heil Valley Ranch and the Picture Rock trail from Heil Valley Ranch to Lyons.
  5. Implemented new alternative transportation initiatives, including an expanded “ecopass” program to make it easier to ride the bus, and expanded bus routes in the county, such as he LYNX and the Extra Long JUMP.
  6. Expanded programs to support public health clinics, including Clinica Campesina, the Peoples Clinic and the mental health center; shelters and transitional housing for the homeless, and other critical human service needs.
  7. Supported creating the Integrated Treatment Court which provides structured support to addicted substance abusers, protecting public safety while helping people turn their lives around, and reducing public expenditures on incarcerating them.

What Will will do for Boulder County in the Next Four Years

  1. Accelerate the development of solar energyand energy efficiency projects in the county by creating a new clean energy financing district to make it affordable for homeowners to install solar systems.
  2. Work with all of the jurisdictions in Boulder County to develop and adopt a commercial green building code for energy efficient and sustainable businesses that could be a model for other parts of the state and the country.
  3. Increase the use of solar energy on a high percentage of county public facilities.
  4. Continue to implement the County’s sustainable energy plan, which will result in a 40 % reduction in greenhouses gases by 2020 if fully implemented.
  5. Work to extend the “worthy cause” initiative for the county, which generates needed funding for capital needs of human services nonprofits such as early childhood education, affordable housing and public health clinics.
  6. Continue efforts to coordinate human services in the County through the implementation of the first ever county wide human services plan.
  7. Implement the multi-modal transportation which voters supported last year when 70% of tem voted for County Issue 1B. Will will work to get key regional trail connections completed, new shoulders and bikelanes on county roads to improve safety fr cyclists and motorists, and expnded ecopass and transit services.in the County (list some of the unfinished items)
  8. Build on the funding provided by Fastracks to bring high quality bus rapid transit service on a dedicated lane to the US 36 corridor.
  9. Work to assure that the open space program is well funded and able to continue its important mission. Continue to work on preserving the open areas of Boulder County.
  10. Work to provide more recreational trails in appropriate locations to maximize recreational the experience while minimizing environmental impacts.
